Property taxes for homes in Clark County, Indiana

How Much Are Property Taxes in Clark County, Indiana?

Property taxes in Clark County, Indiana, vary by the home's tax value, its local tax district, and the tax breaks that apply. To find the amount for a Clarksville home, start with its county tax record, then check what may change after you buy.

What Makes Up the Bill?

The county starts with an assessed value. That is the value used for taxes, which may differ from the home's sale price.

Deductions lower the value that gets taxed. The local tax rate is then used to work out the tax. Credits can lower the tax owed.

A tax district is the area whose local units share in your tax bill. These may include a town, township, school district, and library.

Clarksville has more than one tax district. For example, the state's 2026 tax rate list shows district 011, Clarksville Town OFW, at $3.7508 per $100 of taxable value. Other Clarksville districts have different rates.

That figure is a gross rate, before credits and tax caps. Don't multiply it by a listing price and treat the result as your final bill.

Does Indiana's 1% Tax Cap Apply?

A qualifying homestead, usually your main home, generally has a tax cap of 1% of its gross assessed value. That means the value before deductions.

For a simple example, a $250,000 homestead value gives a $2,500 base cap. This is an example, not a quote for a home on the market.

Voter-approved referendum taxes can be outside that cap. Other charges may also appear on the bill, and parts of a parcel can fall under different tax classes. The state's tax bill guide explains how the cap works.

Check the Year and the Tax Breaks

A homestead deduction is a tax break for a home that meets the rules for a main residence. Ask the Clark County Auditor which benefits you qualify for and how to file.

Be sure to use the right year. For taxes due in 2026, the supplemental homestead deduction is 40% of the value left after the standard deduction. For taxes due in 2027, that percentage is 46%, and the standard deduction also changes. The DLGF's May 2026 guidance lists these changes.

A seller's old bill is a starting point. Your tax breaks, the assessed value, and future rates may differ.

A Tip From a Local Agent

Before you make an offer in Clarksville, ask for the full tax bill. Check both installments, the tax year, and the listed deductions.

Then ask your lender to explain the tax amount in your monthly payment estimate. If the bill and estimate differ, find out why before you set your budget. Keep a copy of any deduction filing receipt with your closing papers.

Do I Need to Check the Homestead Deduction After Buying?

Yes. The Clark County Auditor tells owners to refile deductions when a deed changes. Ask the office what you need to file and which deadline applies to your purchase.

The state lists May 11 and November 10, 2026 as the due dates. Check your bill and confirm payment with your lender if taxes are paid through an escrow account.
